KIDS Walter Payton: Youth Voices in Healthcare

KIDS Walter Payton is a youth-led chapter of the International Children’s Advisory Network (iCAN), dedicated to empowering young people to engage with pediatric healthcare through advocacy, research, education, and innovation. From hands-on medical workshops to community outreach and patient support initiatives, we amplify student voices to make healthcare more inclusive, informed, and compassionate.

What We Do:

At KIDS Walter Payton, our mission is to elevate youth voices in healthcare through hands-on experiences, education, and service. Here’s how we make an impact:

Health Education & Career Exploration

We host workshops, guest speakers, and interactive sessions—like EEG monitoring and medical panels—to introduce students to careers in healthcare and deepen their understanding of pediatric medicine.

Patient Support & Community Outreach

We create care packages, collect books, and organize drives to support young patients at Lurie Children’s Hospital and beyond. Our efforts bring comfort, joy, and resources to those who need them most.

Youth-Led Research & Advocacy

As part of iCAN, our members contribute to real-world research, offer feedback on pediatric healthcare studies, and speak directly with professionals to improve treatment experiences for kids and teens.

Global Collaboration & Leadership

We connect with other KIDS chapters across the world, attend international summits, and work together on youth-driven solutions to make healthcare more inclusive, equitable, and youth-informed.
